What I clean, and how
Four jobs, all done at low pressure, all done by me, anywhere from Rooi-Els to Kleinmond and Arabella. Here's what each one involves.

Roofs
Roof cleaning
Moss and lichen hold water against the tiles, and the black streaks are mould. I treat the roof at low pressure from a ladder or the gutter line, the growth dies off, and the rain finishes the rinse over the following weeks. No walking on the tiles and no pressure washer.
- Concrete and clay tiles
- Moss, lichen and black streaks
- The tile colour comes back as the growth dies

Driveways
Driveway and paving cleaning
Concrete, pavers and cobbles pick up years of grey grime and then moss in the joints. I pre-treat the stains, clean the whole area so it comes out even rather than patchy, and treat it afterwards so the green takes longer to come back.
- Concrete, pavers, cobbles and stone
- Paths, steps and garage aprons
- Slip hazards removed

Walls
Wall cleaning
Boundary walls and retaining walls sit in the weather all year and are usually the first thing to go green, especially the shaded side. I soft wash plaster, face brick, vibracrete and precast panels. Pressure washing these blows out mortar joints and etches plaster, which is why I don't.
- Plastered, face brick and block walls
- Vibracrete and precast panels
- Retaining walls and garden edges
- Green mould, algae and salt marks
- Great before painting or selling

Patios
Patios and outdoor areas
Pool surrounds, stoeps, decks and braai areas get slippery and stained faster than anything else because they're always damp. I clean the surface and the edges and coping, and I keep the run-off out of the pool and the flower beds.
- Pool surrounds and coping
- Stoeps, decks and pergolas
- Sandstone, slate and pavers
- Run-off kept out of the pool and garden
- Worth doing before the summer holidays
Why low pressure
Soft washing vs pressure washing
Both get the dirt off. The difference is what happens to the surface underneath, and how long it takes for the green to come back.
